Relationships abroad – dealing with conflict, living in a community, solving problems

In this section, we’re going to explore how to ensure everyone feels safe during your exchange, including you! We will look at what kinds of relationships will be helpful and unhelpful, reflect on where your boundaries are and how it looks and feels when they are pushed, and finally see how all this relates to the safeguarding procedures of your organisation. By the end of this 30 minute unit, you’ll understand

  • The different types of relationships that you’ll come across during volunteering
  • Your personal “zones” and how they create boundaries that are unique to you
  • The different methods you can take to solve problems during your volunteering placement
  • What safeguarding procedures are in place and how they can help you
