Women’s Peace Appeal Centenary, 2023-24

In 1923-24, 390,296 women from Wales signed an appeal to the women of America calling for world peace. Over 2023-24, communities Wales-wide celebrated their efforts and legacy through ‘Hawlio Heddwch’, an Academi Heddwch partnership project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund Cymru. Participants discovered ancestors and individuals from their own communities, and played a part in rediscovering a generation of Welsh women’s stories. This previously ‘hidden history’ now brings to life the vision of Welsh women whose legacy aspired to be “the proud heritage of a warless world.”
