Peace – or the lack of it – affects all our lives. None of us can take it for granted.
Peace is more than simply the absence of war. Peace means a world without violence or the fear of violence, as well as the conditions to prevent conflict such as fairness and respect.
The lack of peace doesn’t only concern ‘conflicts that happen far away’, or situations that we ‘can’t do anything about’. Peace is also about the communities we live in and everyday fears and insecurities, such as domestic abuse, racism or inequality.
We have a responsibility to act. Decisions we make in Wales can contribute to a more peaceful society, both in this country and world-wide.
It isn’t always easy to know what to do, so Academi Heddwch Cymru provides governments and others with research and evidence to make informed decisions.
The Welsh Government and other national and local organisations can affect peace-related issues. That includes tackling poverty, racism, discrimination and climate change. In fact, we can all contribute to peace – whether that’s in our communities, work or personal lives.
On the world stage, Wales has a strong peace tradition to draw upon, including the Women’s Peace Petition of 1923 and the Urdd’s Message of Peace and Goodwill, that has been reaching out to young people across the world since 1922.
To this day, Academi Heddwch Cymru is part of a global network of people working for peace, and you can be part of that too.
