‘Peace speaks every Language’: Wales’ 2026 Youth Message of Peace & Goodwill
For over a century, since 1922, young people of Wales have created a Peace and Goodwill Message, sharing it with young people across the world. The purpose of the Message is to unite children and young people everywhere, inspiring them to take humanitarian action and to build positive international connections. Pioneered as the very first campaign of the Welsh League of Nations Union, since the early 1950s it has been led and coordinated through Urdd Gobaith Cymru, the national youth movement of Wales.
For 2026, the Urdd’s Message of Peace and Goodwill focuses on Minority Languages.
With over 7,000 languages across the world, and experts predicting that half of them will have disappeared by the end of the century, the message spotlights the need for us to protect minority languages before they disappear forever. The aim of the 2026 Message is to educate people around the world about these languages, and to encourage them to value, learn, and use them.
The words of the 2026 Message are available in multiple languages, along with an education pack on this year’s theme by Dr Ianto Gruffydd.
WCIA / Cymru Global also worked with the Urdd and Hwb to produce a learning pack on the History of the Peace Message for the 2022 Centenary, which includes links to previous peace messages over the generations, digitised through People’s Collection Wales.
You can support the Message from 19 May, by sharing the video on social media channels, using the hashtags #Heddwch2026 to unite the message across the world.
Please help us spread the word about this important message – Diolch yn fawr for your support.
